One of the most challenging elements upon arrival at each shoot is determining an appropriate, attractive background for each interview frame. Traditionally, we alternate the angle and background for each individual we are interviewing to provide some variety in the final product. We often find ourselves moving furniture (with permission!) and utilizing the interviewees decor to provide dimension, which can be quite difficult depending on the size of the space and the style of the home or office we are interviewing in. We love using a second camera, with an alternate angle, to provide a cut shot throughout the final edited piece.
When onsite, clients often try to maximize what we are capturing, which may include capturing content for later usage or evergreen content development. So in order to do this, we utilize a green screen so the background can be changed, increasing the potential uses! Sometimes, the client will even have interviewees come with multiple clothing options in order to provide variety for evergreen content.
When the goal is capturing a high quantity of content or a variety of backgrounds is necessary, the green screen provides an excellent solution! It allows us to utilize content captured on the same day for a variety of purposes. It creates a clean background and allows us to match a background that best fits with their coloring, outfit, messaging, etc.
Green screens are not without their difficulties, though! The green screen requires a larger space in order to set up, especially with our updated set up. As a team, it requires a longer set up time, as the green screen has to be perfectly lit in order to be edited later on. And – editing takes longer, as you have to key out the green and add in a background for each interview.
The Filmiamo team is happy to work with clients to discuss the most appropriate course of action for each video’s creation! Our goal is to always create clean, aesthetically pleasing work!
